How the Board Works

The Board of Trustees

TUHSD is governed by five trustees elected to four-year terms in staggered cycles. Trustees make decisions on budget, curriculum, facilities, personnel policy, and district direction.

Meeting schedule

The board typically meets twice per month during the school year. Agendas are posted at least 72 hours in advance in accordance with the Brown Act.

How to participate

Every regular board meeting includes a public comment period. Community members may address the board on any item on the agenda or on district matters generally.

• Attend in person: Sign up to speak before the meeting begins or when the public comment period opens.
• Submit written comment: Written comments submitted before a meeting are typically included in the public record.
• Watch the recording: Board meetings are recorded and posted publicly, so you can review any decision even if you were not present.

Elections

Trustee elections take place in November of even-numbered years. Community members can register to vote or check registration status through the Marin County Elections Department.

Anyone who resides within the district and meets the constitutional qualifications is eligible to run for the board. Filing periods are set by the county elections office.

Public records

Under the California Public Records Act, any resident may request access to non-exempt district records. Within ten days the district must determine whether the request seeks disclosable records and notify you of that determination and the reasons for it. In unusual circumstances it may extend that deadline in writing by up to fourteen days. The ten-day deadline is for the determination, not for the records themselves, which the statute requires be produced promptly.
