How you can help
Real change in a school district happens when neighbors show up, ask questions, and stay engaged. Here are the most useful ways to contribute.
1. Donate to Support the Alliance Today
Community organizing takes resources. Voter mailers, digital advertising, public records fees, and the tools we use to publish meeting summaries all cost money. A contribution to Tam Union Governance Alliance keeps that work going.
Where your contribution goes
- · Voter communication. Mailers, digital ads, and printed materials that reach families across the district with plain-language information about board decisions and elections.
- · Meeting archives. Transcription and the work of publishing the meeting summaries you see on this site.
- · Public records work. Filing California Public Records Act requests, tracking responses, and covering the duplication fees the district charges for producing documents.
- · Community engagement. Get-out-the-vote materials, neighborhood forums, and organized outreach in the weeks before board elections.
- · Operating costs. Website hosting, email service, secure document storage, and other essential infrastructure.
2. Attend a board meeting
A board meeting with 60 residents in the room is a very different meeting from one with three. Even attending as an observer sends a signal that the community is watching.

3. Speak during public comment
Every regular meeting includes a public comment period. Two or three minutes of thoughtful comment on the record has more influence than many people realize.
If you have never spoken at a public meeting before, we're happy to share tips on structure and timing. Reach out through our contact page.
4. Submit written comments
Written comments submitted to the board before a meeting are typically included in the public record. This is a great option if you cannot attend in person or prefer to communicate in writing.
Send your written comments to publiccomment@tamdistrict.org before the meeting begins.
5. Share your knowledge
If you have direct experience with a district program that is under discussion, whether as a student, parent, teacher, or staff member, your perspective is valuable. We keep what you send us in confidence and do not publish anyone's name without their permission. We cannot promise absolute confidentiality: a political committee is required by law to retain certain records, and material can be compelled in litigation or by the Fair Political Practices Commission.
6. VOTE in trustee elections
Trustee elections happen every two years, in November of even-numbered years. Voter turnout in local elections is often a fraction of statewide races, which means your vote carries even more weight.
We highly encourage you to consider the new candidates on the ballot rather than the incumbents — their experience, and what they will bring to representing the students, teachers, families, and community as a whole.
