How you can help
Real change in a school district happens when neighbors show up, ask questions, and stay engaged. Here are the most useful ways to contribute.
1. Attend a board meeting
A board meeting with 60 residents in the room is a very different meeting from one with three. Even attending as an observer sends a signal that the community is watching.

2. Speak during public comment
Every regular meeting includes a public comment period. Two or three minutes of thoughtful comment on the record has more influence than many people realize.
If you have never spoken at a public meeting before, we're happy to share tips on structure and timing. Reach out through our contact page.
3. Submit written comments
Written comments submitted to the board before a meeting are typically included in the public record. This is a great option if you cannot attend in person or prefer to communicate in writing.
4. Share your knowledge
If you have direct experience with a district program that is under discussion, whether as a student, parent, teacher, or staff member, your perspective is valuable. We treat all shared information as confidential unless you tell us otherwise.
5. Vote in trustee elections
Trustee elections happen every two years, in November of even-numbered years. Voter turnout in local elections is often a fraction of statewide races, which means your vote carries even more weight.

6. Support the Alliance
Community organizing takes resources. Voter mailers, digital advertising, public records fees, and the tools we use to publish meeting summaries all cost money. A contribution to Tam Union Governance Alliance keeps that work going.

Our FPPC Statement of Organization is in progress. Under California law, we cannot accept contributions until that filing is complete. This page will open for donations as soon as our filings clear. If you would like to be notified the moment donations open, join our email list below.
Where your contribution goes
- · Voter communication. Mailers, digital ads, and printed materials that reach families across the district with plain-language information about board decisions and elections.
- · Meeting archives. Video hosting, transcription, and the work of publishing the meeting summaries and highlight clips you see on this site.
- · Public records work. Filing California Public Records Act requests, tracking responses, and covering the duplication fees the district charges for producing documents.
- · Community engagement. Get-out-the-vote materials, neighborhood forums, and organized outreach in the weeks before board elections.
- · Operating costs. Website hosting, email service, secure document storage, and other essential infrastructure.
Contribution details
- Suggested amounts: $25, $50, $100, $250, $500. Contributions of any size are welcome.
- Required donor information: California law requires we collect and publicly report the name, address, occupation, and employer of any donor who contributes $100 or more in a calendar year. That information appears on our public FPPC filings.
- Corporate and organizational donors: Contributions from businesses and organizations are welcome and subject to the same disclosure requirements as individual donors.
- Tax status: Contributions to Tam Union Governance Alliance are not tax deductible.
- Refunds: If you contribute in error, contact julie@tamgovernance.org within 60 days for a refund.
